Lubbock-Cooper Pirates vs Crosstown Foe, Frenship High Tigers
For the last three years, LCP has beaten the Tigers so each team went into this game with something to prove…It’s a rivalry that runs deep. Both teams wanted the W bad but only one would prevail.
The year after Kellyn graduated, I got a new camera system and a few portrait lenses to go along with it but I wasn’t able to get the zoom sports lens that I have shot with for years now while shooting LCP sports. The bank account just wouldn’t allow it. So, for the first two games of the season, I rented a lens. And man, it’s an amazing piece of glass but I just couldn’t get it again for the FHS game since I will have it during homecoming week. But I didn’t let that keep me at home as I decided to head to the game and get down on the field and take some shots of the happenings on the sidelines. I did take a few football shots and although they aren’t as good as they could be using the right lens, I didn’t realize the 35mm would actually take such sharp images to where I could crop in tight and it still be a decent shot. I love capturing emotions shots so that’s mostly what I got that night. And I knew the cheer and pom squads along with the players and coaches on the sidelines and the passionate fans in the stands, would give me plenty to capture…they did not disappoint.
I love photographing the moments right before kick-off…I seriously still get butterflies!
The game didn’t end the way Pirate Nation wanted but nothing but respect for our boys as they battled the entire game. LCP came up short against the Tigers losing 61-53 in the fourth OT. It was quite the game to watch and I know the Pirates will be a better team after taking a hard loss against their crosstown foes. Up next, Monterey Plainsmen tonight at 7pm!! Be there!
